Last stage of the Tour de France 2016 ends traditionally on the Champs-Élysées. Therefore, the Tour finished after the last 113km in Paris.
Also traditionally this final stage is also the last chance for the sprinters to take a victory under their belt. Sam Bennett had to take on today’s final without his main lead-out rider Shane Archbold, who had to leave the Tour with a broken pelvis after stage 17. But nevertheless the team tried to support Sam as good as possible. With his 9th place, Sam’s Tour finds a positive end, after his hard crash on stage one. He will be written in the history books as 2016 Tour’s last rider of the GC – the red lantern.
