The race over nearly 200 kilometres led the peloton today across Flanders and accordingly it was a hilly classic profile. Four escapees were quickly able to distance from the field, but they were caught early. A second group, also with four riders, stayed longer in front and they were caught by a very small chasing pack only seven kilometres from the finish. BORA – ARGON 18 was present with three riders in this field, which comprised less than fifty riders. Andreas Schillinger made the pace at the front, while Christoph Pfingsten and Daniel Schorn prepared for the group sprint.
The finale was characterized by many attacks by riders who wanted to avoid such a sprint. Sean De Bie (Lotto-Soudal) set the decisive attack with three kilometres to go, when no one in the field responded initially. Two riders decided to chase him, but they and the field didn’t manage. So de Bie won as a soloist, just ahead of the two pursuers. The BORA – ARGON 18 riders were boxed in the sprint, so Daniel Schorn finished as the best rider in 19th place.
