On Sunday, the GP Industria & Commercio di Prato closed a series of four Italian classics BORA – ARGON 18 rode since mid-week. The race over 185 kilometres offered a typical classics profile with short climbs. The peloton had to complete two laps around the city of Prato in Tuscany, each one to ride six times. As with the last few races, a breakaway group was successful to the finish. Daniele Bennati (Tinkoff-Saxo) won the race in the sprint of the five-member group. Jose Mendes and three other riders of BORA – ARGON 18 finished with the chasing bunch, 28 seconds behind the winner.
"We wanted to focus on the Italian national team and to do not waste any energy before. One could see in the last days that the team always determined the race, regardless of its composition. The guys tried to achieve this goal, but in the crucial situation we didn’t make it into the group. Jose was indeed within reach, but it wasn’t enough for the front group. The last days were important to us in view of the big Italian races early October, because there we want to perform in the best possible way again", BORA – ARGON 18 Sports Director Enrico Poitschke commented the race.
