Now that our first season as BORA – ARGON 18 is in the books, we want to look back to the highlights. And there were quite many of them. No less than 29 podium results, including eight high-level victories, made 2015 a very successful season. Relive our greatest success here:
Statistics of the first three months:
After the turn of the year, the BORA – ARGON 18 pros went to their training camp in Mallorca, where they saw their new Craft jerseys for the first time and tested the new equipment of Argon 18, ABUS and all other partners. After intense training sessions, for the new sprint train as well as optimizations for the team time trial and time trial tests on the velodrome, the actual racing started with the Mallorca Challenge.
The fourth place of Sam Bennett at the Trofeo Playa de Palma was only a foretaste of the coming weeks. Only 14 days later the 24-year-old Irishman sprinted to a magnificent first season victory in the final stage of the Tour of Qatar. The next stage race, the Tour of Oman, was rather something for the classification riders like Patrick Konrad. With a great tactical move on the first stage, Konrad rode into the white jersey of the best young rider. At the end he finished in 10th place overall - the beginning of a great first professional season.
With the start of the classic races, the team rode step by step in the direction of a result. And it finally happened at the Three Days of West Flanders: time trial specialist Jan Barta rode to the third place in the prologue and ended the short stage race in fourth place overall. It was Scott Thwaites who took his chances in the following classics. Two Top5 rankings in Drenthe were just the warm-up for his sprint to 3rd place at Nokere-Koerse. Phil Bauhaus completed a great team effort by sprinting to 4th place. Thwaites underlined his great form with a strong performance at Gent-Wevelgem. In extreme weather conditions, he was part of a large group that dominated the race and finished in a respectable 17th place.
With Tirreno - Adriatico, the first WorldTour race was on the program in mid March. Sam Bennett once again underlined his consistency by sprinting to his first podium in a WorldTour race. The team remained in Italy after the tour to start at Milan-San Remo a few days later. Jan Barta showed once again one of his famous attacks riding 250 kilometers in the lead.
Two races on the Mediterranean island of Corsica, the Classica Corsica and the Criterium International, ended the first three months of the new year. And both races were a success for BORA – ARGON 18. In the absence of his sprint leader, lead-out rider Shane Archbold took his chance to sprint to second place at the one-day race. Jose Mendes showed a very strong performance at the following short stage race where he placed 5th in the overall standings.
