Most fire victims – around 70 per cent according to studies – have an accident at night within their own four walls. The danger is posed not so much by the fire, but by the smoke. Approximately 95 per cent of fire fatalities result from the effects of smoke inhalation.

By day, the sources of fires can usually be detected and extinguished quickly. By night, however, one’s sense of smell is also asleep with the result that victims are caught by surprise in their sleep without noticing the dangerous fire gases.
