SENSOR ONE OPENING DETECTOR QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

With the SENSOR One, you’ll know whether windows or doors have been closed. Use it in conjunction with the LOXERIS One or WINTECTO One.

Here we answer the frequently asked questions about the opening detector for the ABUS One app.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SENSOR ONE

The SENSOR One is primarily designed to detect the status of a window, door or flap. To this end, the opening detector consists of two components:

    • Sensor
    • Magnet

When the door is closed, the magnet and sensor are in close proximity to one another. When the door is opened, the distance between the magnet and sensor increases. The sensor detects the changing magnetic field and reports the opening to the ABUS One app via the ABUS BRIDGE One. Depending on the calibration, just a few millimetres are sufficient to detect that a door or window has been opened.

As well as providing a simple status alert, the opening detector can also be used for advanced functions of smart ABUS One drives: automatic locking via the LOXERIS One, for example – or to prevent incorrect locking should the door still be open whilst you are remotely issuing the command to lock it.

Yes, you need the BRIDGE One to use the SENSOR One. It enables communication between the door/window sensor and the ABUS One app. Please note: The distance between the Bridge and the sensor should not exceed 5 metres.

The SENSOR One is not a door/window contact designed for burglary detection, even though you can receive a push notification via the ABUS One app if it is opened without authorisation.

For burglary protection, we recommend integrating the compatible Smartvest Pro alarm system, together with the Smartvest Pro door/window contact, into the ABUS One app.

The SENSOR One is suitable for most standard indoor doors and windows. It can be fitted to wooden, plastic and many metal frames. This requires that the sensor and magnet can be securely attached to a sufficiently large contact surface on the door or window frame or sash. Please note the dimensions of the components:

    • Magnet: 15 × 20 mm (W × H)
    • Sensor: 30 × 43 mm (W × H)

During installation, you are free to choose whether to attach the magnet or the sensor to the frame or the sash of the window or door. The corresponding counterpart is then attached to the other element.

Roof windows differ from conventional windows in terms of their design, opening mechanism and frame construction. Whether the opening detector can be fitted there therefore depends on the specific installation situation. It is important that the sensor and magnet can be positioned correctly in relation to each other and securely fastened in accordance with the instructions. You should therefore check before installation whether there is sufficient suitable mounting surface on the roof window and whether the opening movement will not interfere with its operation.

    • Magnet: 15 × 20 mm (W × H)
    • Sensor: 30 × 43 mm (W × H)

If you can fit the sensor and the magnet close enough together (approx. 12 mm), you can also use the SENSOR One as an opening detector on sliding doors. Patio doors that open inwards are one of the main applications for the SENSOR One.

Handy for patio doors that open inwards: here, you can use the SENSOR One in combination with the WINTECTO One – a window operator that turns your patio door into a fully functional entrance door that you can unlock and lock via the app. Find out more about the WINTECTO One here.

Yes, the SENSOR One is also suitable for use in rented flats. Whilst we recommend fixing it with screws to ensure a secure and reliable long-term installation, as a tenant you should obtain your landlord’s consent before drilling or screwing into doors and windows.

Alternatively, the SENSOR One can also be attached to many smooth, flat surfaces using the adhesive strips supplied. This method usually allows for quick installation without drilling and is particularly suitable for rented flats. Before attaching the device, the surface should be thoroughly cleaned to ensure the adhesive strips adhere properly – press the adhesive strip firmly into place for at least 5 seconds when applying it.

The SENSOR One is not splash-proof and should only be used indoors or, at the very least, in an environment that is fully sheltered from the elements.

A tilted window is shown as an open window in the status bar.

With the Google Home and Amazon Alexa smart home systems, you can check whether a door or window is open or closed.
